Lord's cricket ground sand

Tarmac Topsport has played a major role in the first ever complete replacement of the playing surface at the world famous Lords cricket ground in London.

The installation of the new, sand based outfield surface should help to reduce the amount of play lost to the effects of rain at Lords and allow other events to be held. Working with main contractor J Mallinson, Topsport supplied more than 15,000tonnes of materials from various Tarmac sites around the south of England. This includes 5,100 tonnes of gravel, 2000 tonnes of blinding sand and 4000 tonnes of Topsports specially graded sand for the lower rootzone layer. The work represents the first time that the entire outfield playing area has been replaced in the grounds 188-year history and is part of a £1 million-plus project.
