Professional Sports Sand is the star player for five local authorities in East Lancashire
The UK’s leading supplier of specialist sands, rootzones and gravels for professional sports pitches has entered the local authority sports grounds arena. In a major new deal with the East Lancashire e-partnership (ELeP), a consortium of five local authorities, Tarmac Topsport will supply approximately fifteen hundred tonnes of Topsport Medium fine Sand to topdress ninety football and rugby pitches.
The ELeP region includes the districts of Pendle Borough Council, Burnley Borough Council, Ribble Valley Borough Council, Rossendale Borough Council and Hyndburn Borough Council. The partnership with Topsport will see the company supply the sand as part of the new two-year contract.
As part of the deal, Burnley Borough Council will receive around a hundred tonnes of the Topsport Medium Fine Sand as part of its regular annual upkeep and maintenance programme to upgrade the Prairie playing fields, which includes ten football and rugby pitches. A further eighty tonnes of sand will be supplied by Tarmac Topsport to complete maintenance of two other football pitches within the Borough.
Topsport Medium Fine Sand is a high quality sand produced by Tarmac Topsport to industry standards set out by bodies such as Professional Sportsturf Design Ltd (PSD) and Sports Turf Research Institute (STRI). It is ideally suited for topdressing winter sports pitches, whether professional or municipal. This specialist free draining, single-sized sand has neutral Ph and low Calcium Carbonate content, which offers good water retention to avoid rapid leaching of organic nutrients from soils. It provides the perfect balance between good drainage and aeration that is necessary for sports pitches.
Harry Nuttall, Procurement Officer for Pendle Borough Council said: "A medium fine sand was selected following detailed scientific analysis by the Sports Turf Research Institute as being the most suitable sand for the local authority sports pitches in our area. Having done business with Tarmac Topsport in the past we were pleased to award the two year contract as we found that they are consistently able to supply top quality specialist sands as part of a competitive package".
