Tarmac Topfloor provides next step to regeneration plans in East London
Bespoke, high-grade precast concrete stairs from Tarmac Topfloor have been installed in new apartment buildings at The Water Gardens, a residential development that forms part of the prestigious 1.5 billion Canada Waters regeneration scheme in East London. The high-quality two and three bedroom apartments have been designed around a central water feature to offer a peaceful retreat from city life.
Tarmac Topfloor- the UKs leading concrete flooring and stairs specialists - supplied stair flights that were six-stories high, spanning from floor level to cross-landings, as well as intermediate level landings, to six apartment blocks as part of a contract with Laing ORourke.
The stair flights were manufactured at Tarmac Topfloors Lound site by casting the concrete on edge in steel moulds, using self-compacting concrete to deliver a exceptionally smooth finish.
Each stair flight to each half landing consisted of between nine to ten risers, each measuring 1200mm wide and weighing two tonnes. Laing ORourke completed the concrete frame of the apartments in-situ, with Topfloors precast bespoke concrete stairs specified to ensure ease of installation on site.
Iain Baker, project manager, Laing ORourke said: We specified precast stairs from Tarmac Topfloor as they could deliver a high-quality product suitable for the build. Importantly, the Tarmac Topfloor team was flexible and able to accommodate our specific delivery requirements which altered a number of times during the project.
Commenting on the project, Tony Poole, sales manager at Tarmac Topfloor said: The Water Gardens is a high profile development which we were delighted to be involved with. It is the first site where weve supplied precast stairs manufactured using the on edge casting technique to create a high quality finish. We hope to use the same technique in a number of projects across the UK.
