Thin joint makes moves at Dartford judo club
A brand new accommodation facility has been built in rapid time at Dartford Judo Club, using fast track build Durox System aircrete blocks with accessories from Thin Joint Technology Ltd and blocks from Tarmac Topblock. Como Construction, a division of project management company MACE and an official Olympic Delivery Partner, recommended this building method.
A National Centre of Excellence, the four-bedroom structure will offer a living and rest area for visiting instructors, teams, judges and guests of the Judo Club. This new accommodation unit forms part of the recently completed award-winning Dartford Judo Club facility, a worldwide host to both national and international tournaments.
The frame of the building was erected within a one-week period including all blockwork and external wall insulation. Thin Joint Technology Ltd provided the specialist thin joint mortar, external insulated render and all ancillary products at the site whilst Tarmac Topblock supplied the Durox System blockwork.
Chris Hirst, Sales and Marketing Director of Thin Joint Technology Ltd commented: "This is a great project to be involved in, as the building will be used for years to come by competitors of the highest level from around the globe.
"As awareness of the Durox System with thin joint technology increases, so does the demand for this specialist product. The fast track capabilities enabled us to meet all the client's needs and requirements within a particularly limited timeframe."
Talking about the importance of the Olympics and the huge range of structures that need to be completed before the Games start, Brian Hewkin, Durox System Project Manager for Tarmac Topblock, said: “It is encouraging to see the construction industry and the government embracing modern methods of construction.
"When building the Olympic structures, it is crucial attention is paid to the methods of construction, to ensure these world leading facilities will be both energy efficient and stand the test of time. This is why it is encouraging to see Durox System with thin joint technology used in this way in a sports facility.
"It also confirms the strength of traditional blockwork when used in a modern system. The world’s best judo exponents will be using the Dartford centre and they are used to the highest standards of performance and strength…attributes they will certainly find in the accommodation at Dartford."
