The Manchester Interdisciplinary Biocentre
(MIB) has been designed for the scientific
culture of the university, the building will
house over 500 scientists and 85 different
research groups.
The building has cost 38 million pounds and
comprises of six floors and covers a ground
space of 13,100m2. The architectural aspect
of the building consists of both open plan
and multifunctional laboratories, with a wide
range of specialist facilities. The building
also contains modern office facilities,
recreation areas and a 200-seat lecture
theatre. Furthermore meeting areas and a
spectacular atrium area encourages
interaction between the two spaces.
The office accommodation incorporates precast TermoDeck type flooring units to provide a heating and cooling system, based on the interaction between mechanical ventilation system and the thermal mass of the of the floor to assist in the environmental control of the designated areas.
