Tarmac Homes Project at Nottingham University

Making the Code simple, affordable and repeatable

What are we building and why?

Tarmac are building two concept masonry homes at the University of Nottingham.   The aim is that the homes will provide organisations working within the public and private housing markets, with a tried and tested method of delivering low-carbon, low-cost housing.

Tarmac, together with project partners:Lovell

Lovell - leading provider in affordable housing

Zedfactory, leaders in the field of zero-carbon design and development part of Bill Dunster Architects

will build one home to Level 6 and the other to Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes.

The Tarmac homes will be semi-detached properties built using traditional masonry techniques to demonstrate that it is possible to deliver an affordable, low-carbon and zero carbon properties by utilising existing, thermally efficient masonry products.

To build energy efficient masonry homes that can be mass produced, are visually appealing to the majority of potential home owners and are affordable to buy and maintain.
