Sustainable products
Tarmac's business is founded on products that are essential for economic and social wellbeing, from creating the built environment and infrastructure around us, to important manufacturing processes and environmental protection.
Responsible sourcing
Working with our suppliers to promote responsible practices throughout our supply chain and operations
Helping our customers to fulfil their own obligations to source responsibly
Product quality management
Delivering quality products and services by understanding our customers' needs and operating best practice quality management systems
Sustainable product performance
Striving to supply products and services that contribute positively to the whole life sustainability of buildings and infrastructure that we help to create and maintain
Sustainable product performance and responsible sourcing
Not only are we actively using the inherent properties of our materials - such as thermal mass, structural capability, durability, fire resistance and flood resistance - we also understand the importance of improving the sustainability performance of our products, in all applications, throughout their whole life cycle.
There is a growing recognition that design practice, methods of construction and the materials used need to evolve if we are to move towards a more sustainable future.
Factors such as regulatory policy and a growing number of codes and standards also create a need to address increasingly complex sustainability challenges.
Responsible sourcing is central to our sustainable products strategy. For us, it means that materials, goods and services are produced and traded legally, ethically and with due regard to environmental, social and economic impacts throughout the supply chain. We aim to embed this into all stages - from extraction, to manufacture and processing, to use, reuse and recycling, or licensed disposal.
In practice, this means a commitment to:
ensure that sustainability is embedded in all our manufacturing operations and product development processes, including safe and responsible production
consistently provide high-quality sustainable products and services that meet our customers’ needs
provide clear and reliable life cycle information for our customers and other stakeholders to enable them to make the best decision on product choice
provide information, advice and education on the most sustainable way to use our products, sustainable construction and other legislation
ensure that the raw materials and the goods we purchase are responsibly sourced
innovate solutions to help customers address their sustainability challenges.
We source 95 per cent of the raw materials needed by our UK businesses from within the UK.
Product quality management
This commitment defines the overall quality objectives of the company. These objectives are fulfilled by compliance with BS EN ISO 9000 Quality Systems that are reviewed and continually improved so that they are appropriate to the needs of each business unit. This Quality Policy is the concern of all employees and the principles and objectives will be communicated throughout the workforce.
