Tarmac Middle East

Our thriving Middle East business is based in Dubai with regional operations across Oman, Qatar and the UAE. It provides aggregates, asphalt and contracting services, and its managing director reports directly to the CEO of Tarmac's UK business.

Sustainability strategy and policies

Our company-wide targets and policies apply across all Tarmac operations, both in the UK and in our Middle East businesses. Key codes of conduct for all employees are set out in Anglo American’s Good Citizenship rules and Tarmac’s Integrity policy. Tarmac complies with all relevant employment legislation and standards in the countries where we operate. We are an equal opportunities employer and support the principles set out in the UN’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Tarmac Middle East used 796 thousand GJ of electricity and fuel across its 21 operations and 13 contracting gangs in 2011.

Natural Resources & The Environment

Our approach for managing environmental risk is guided by ISO 14001, the internationally recognised standard for environmental management. All Tarmac Middle East operating sites have ISO 14001 certified environmental management systems in place.

In 2011, our Middle East business produced just 1,184 tonnes of waste, which was all sent for licensed disposal.

We believe in promoting equality and diversity, and attracting and retaining the best talent. In 2011, the Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate for Tarmac Middle East was 0.2 and we are pleased to report that there were no fatalities.
