Our strategy

We assess the sustainability impacts of our products across their whole life cycle - from cradle to grave. This includes extracting the raw materials, through to manufacturing, transport and in-use performance, as well as final recycling or disposal at the end of their design life. This approach means that we can help customers to select the right product to deliver on their sustainability challenges.

Our Sustainable Products strategy focuses on three areas:

Sustainable product performance

Tarmac’s products and services support the drive for a more sustainable society. We focus on continuously improving the whole-life environmental performance of our products to deliver social and economic benefits. This approach also helps our customers achieve their own sustainability goals and meet legislative requirements. Our products are produced in a sustainable, responsible way and make a positive contribution to the whole-life sustainability of infrastructure and the wider built environment by cutting carbon footprints, using thermal mass to improve in-use efficiency, promoting recycling, improving durability and minimising pollution.

Quality management

Tarmac’s brand and product range is synonymous with quality and trust. We aim to achieve exceptional standards by understanding our customers’ needs and operating best-practice quality management systems, so that customers can rely on our products to meet their projects’ performance specifications.

Responsible sourcing

We manufacture our products responsibly and this is recognised through certification to schemes such as the BES 6001 Framework Standard for the Responsible Sourcing of Construction Products and the Achilles BuildingConfidence scheme. By demonstrating that we operate and manufacture responsibly, our customers can rely on the fact that they’re buying products that have been made in an ethical, safe, environmentally and socially considerate way.

Through our position as members of the BuildingConfidence council, we also apply this ethos of responsible sourcing throughout our supply chain and work in partnership with our suppliers to promote responsible practices in their operations. This approach helps our customers and their clients to manage risk in their own supply chain, meet government targets and fulfil their own obligations to source responsibly.
