The Crystal Lecture
In 2011, Tarmac CEO Terry Last presented the prestigious 'Crystal' business lecture at the University of Wolverhampton.
Now in its 18th year, the Crystal Lecture is a joint venture between the University of Wolverhampton Business School and the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). His keynote speech, entitled ‘Running a modern business’, focused on how to achieve success during economic uncertainty; smart growth – doing more with less; and the impact of globalisation on the region.
As CEO of a global organisation with very strong roots in the West Midlands, Last was well-placed to present the annual business lecture attended by senior members of the local business community.
His strong track record includes over 43 years in the industry, starting with three years at Doncaster Mining College while working for Wimpey Minerals. Since then, he has also worked at ARC (now Hanson) and Aggregate Industries.
Gerwyn Jones, chair of the CMI Wolverhampton branch, said: “As a University of Wolverhampton graduate and having started my career at Tarmac, I was pleased that Terry Last took the time to promote such a prominent and well-known Wolverhampton event. Every year, the Crystal Lecture attracts over 250 local managers and directors, who get an insightful presentation that is relevant and applicable to everyday business and management.”
