Health and safety
Protecting the health, safety and wellbeing of our employees, and the contractors and communities working at and living around our sites is core to Tarmac. We embed a zero harm culture throughout our operations, which is helping us achieve continuous improvement in our health and safety performance – including a 21% reduction in Lost Time Injuries in 2010 compared to 2009.
Performance summary
Compared to 2009:
- 26% reduction in Total Recordable Case Frequency Rate.
- 21% reduction in Lost Time Injuries.
- 28% reduction cases of occupational disease.
- 15% reduction in Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate.
Our targets
- Progressively reduce the number and severity of incidents to achieve our target of zero harm.
- Achieve a reduction in Total Recordable Case Frequency Rate (TRCFR) of 20% per year.
- Eliminate any new cases, or progression of existing cases of:
- noise-induced hearing loss
- hand-arm vibration syndrome
- dermatitis
- occupational lung disease.
- Ensure that hazards are recognised and associated risks are adequately controlled by appropriate means.
