Rewarding achievement
In 2011, we introduced the 'Achieve the Exceptional' awards to recognise and celebrate our employees' exceptional achievement and effort at both a local and national level.
Employee awards
‘Achieve the Exceptional’ awards, together with the ‘My Idea’ suggestion scheme, were set up in response to last year’s employee survey, in which many staff wanted to see more recognition across the company.
Apart from recognising the 44 winners’ individual achievements, the awards enable us to promote and share best practice, and encourage a culture of continuous improvement. In addition, they support and promote Our Tarmac Plan, with five of the awards’ seven categories supporting the Plan’s five goals.
The panel comprised people from all areas of the business. Every award winner received an award and a £500 cheque. Individual award categories included: ‘Develop Markets’, ‘Reduce Costs’, ‘Engage Employees’, ‘Act Responsibly’, ‘Manage Assets’, ‘My Idea’ and ‘Achieve the Exceptional’.
Employee magazine
In 2011, our employee magazine Tarmac World won three awards at the prestigious Institute of Internal Communication Awards. Our editor, Claire Tristam, won the newly created title of Best Editor, and we also won accolades for the top news magazine in the region and a certificate of merit for design.
