Attracting talent

In 2011, Tarmac launched a dedicated careers website, which enables potential candidates to discover more about our business, research job opportunities and apply online. A 'Meet the people' section gives insight from current employees on working life at Tarmac. We aim to attract talented people to work with us and encourage diversity across our business.

Employee suggestion scheme

We run a suggestion scheme, called My Idea. This scheme encourages employees to give feedback and share their ideas for improving our performance – and rewards them for doing so. If suggestions are approved, employees initially receive a gift voucher; if the idea is put into practice, a greater cash award is given.

Employee recognition

Recognising and rewarding good performance is a key part of our workplace culture. We ensure equal opportunities for all and provide training and development opportunities to support individual career development. This approach strengthens our ability to achieve our business goals.

All Employee Incentive Scheme (AIS)

In 2011, Tarmac launched an all employee incentive scheme (AIS), giving all employees who were not part of an incentive scheme the opportunity to receive reward and recognition for good company performance, This scheme was developed as a direct result of feedback from the employee feedback survey ‘My Say’.

Achieve the exceptional awards

We continued to build on the success of our ‘Achieve the Exceptional’ award scheme launched in 2010 and Tarmac building products ‘our stars awards’. These recognise the outstanding contributions, talents and hard work of our employees. Employees are nominated by colleagues or managers, and winners receive prizes including cash vouchers at an annual Awards Ceremony. The 2011 awards were spilt into seven categories, each supporting Tarmac business objectives. Nominations were received for employees from each business region with the winner of each region being put forward to a national awards ceremony to be hosted in March 2012 to find an overall winner in each category.
