Carbon Trust Standard achieved 2011
Tarmac has secured the Carbon Trust Standard, a prestigious carbon management mark, across all our UK operations. The standard is awarded only to companies that are able to demonstrate real CO2 reductions and a consistent commitment to managing energy and CO2 emissions.
The Carbon Trust Standard is the UK’s leading independent certification that recognises real carbon reduction. The robust, independent assessment verifies organisations that have calculated, managed and minimised their carbon emissions across their own operations. Commitment to reducing CO2 emissions year on year is integral to achieving the standard.
Our combined programmes have delivered tangible CO2 savings. We have implemented a wide range of initiatives, such as investing £13.4 million in a new, more energy-efficient lime kiln at Tunstead that has cut CO2 emissions by 40% per tonne of lime produced.
Dr Martyn Kenny, Tarmac’s director of sustainability, said: “Securing this independent award recognises our long-term commitment to reducing our environmental impact and carbon across all our operations. We recognise that we need to continue to develop this important work, and the Carbon Trust Standard provides a very effective tool to help benchmark this progress.”
