Tarmac sponsorship boosts Olympic hopes for British Paralympians

The British Paralympic team and British Disabled Fencing Association (BDFA) are one step closer to achieving Paralympic gold, following sponsorship from Tarmac.

Tarmac has pledged £2,500 towards extra equipment in order to help build a stronger team for the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games and the London 2012 Paralympic Games. This donation has been matched by Sportsmatch, the Government-funded organisation supporting grass roots sports in England, meaning that the BDFA receives a total of £5,000 towards its specialist fencing frames.

Tarmac National Contracting director for the southwest, Phil Rollason, said the company was approached by the BDFA about sponsoring the fencing team after helping out with fundraising for other disabled sports.

Phil commented: "Sponsoring the fencing team gives Tarmac a link into grassroots disabled sports and helps support the drive for the London 2012 Paralympics. The BDFA is a good organisation that deserves our backing."

Caz Walton at the BDFA added: "The money will be used to buy metal frames to secure the athlete's wheelchairs while we are competing. These frames are very costly but with Tarmac's help we will be able to buy extra frames to lend to other potential Paralympians, thereby creating a stronger team and significantly increasing our chances of Paralympic gold."
