The recycling centre
Recycling
Maybe you have only just discovered the word “recycle”, but the fact is you have been recycling for a long time. Recycling gives us new products from old ones.
Think of all the materials you have used in art and craft projects at school – rolls of paper, card, colour magazines, fabric scraps, cardboard boxes, old jewellery, beads, buttons and aluminium foil.
That was all recycling – in other words, making new products from old materials.
As well as reusing things, lots of schools collect materials for recycling. Stamps and old bottle tops are old favourites for fundraising, but these days the collection of aluminium and steel drinks cans is just as typical.
But it is not just individuals who have to think about recycling. Big companies, governments, factories and offices need to recycle, too… and quarries.
