Laboratory
Introduction
Once the rocks have been extracted from our two quarries, samples are taken to the Quarryville laboratory for examination.
Customers such as construction companies choose different kinds of aggregates (crushed rocks) because of their properties - for example, hardness. This means the composition of materials we sell has to be 100% right…
…“Sorry mate, your house fell down because the limestone we used for the concrete was a bit soft” is the kind of excuse that lands builders and lab technicians in big trouble!
Look at any piece of rock closely and you’ll see that it’s made up of grains or crystals, like sugar cubes. These crystals, which sometimes are tiny and sometimes quite large, are called minerals.
All the different rocks in the world – including Quarryville’s – are made from one or more minerals. Each mineral has a unique set of properties.
