Toptrec

Back

100% recycled and sustainable pathway material

Manufactured from 100% recycled and sustainable materials selected from waste products including screened highway arisings containing concrete, asphalt and sub-base materials.

It is usually 20mm down and has good compaction properties, is user friendly and provides an inexpensive but durable footpath surfacing, especially in rural situations.

Toptrec binds and hardens at least as well as primary aggregate alternatives (6mm gritstone) and is a sustainable footpath solution. A minimum asphalt content is used to enhance the binding of Toptrec and assist in the laying and compaction process.

When laid correctly Toptrec provides a firm and smooth surface for pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders alike.

Toptrec colours

Colours may vary dependent on the materials available locally.

Toptrec Laying Guide

Recommended sub-base

Toptrec should be laid on a well-drained, well compacted and stable sub-base such as recycled type 1 granular sub-base from your local Tarmac recycling depot.

Toptrec applications

  • Foot paths
  • Cycle paths
  • Horseriding pathway areas
  • Park and woodland paths and lanes

Tarmac responding to customer needs

Toptrec is one of Tarmac innovative recycled products which arose as a solution to a particular customer's needs.

Toptrec was also awarded 'recycled product of the year' at the National Recycling Awards, that seek to promote waste reduction, re-use, recycling and sustainable waste management.

General recommendations

Use of an asphalt mini-paver is strongly recommended where width and topography allow and Toptrec must be laid with supported edges such as tanalised timber edging.

Where hand laying is necessary, care should be taken to avoid segregation of coarse and fine materials.

Laying

Toptrec should be laid at an absolute minimum thickness of 50mm and typically in the range 75-125mm.

Compaction

Toptrec should ideally be compacted using a 120 type roller or similar to ensure adequate compaction.
