Road recycling

National road recycling service

Tarmac is at the forefront of the drive to promote the use of recycled materials and has established recycling operations strategically located throughout the country. This enables us to re-use asphalt material recovered from sites and is helping us to achieve our sustainability targets.

National Contracting is fully committed to promoting foamed bitumen technology as a viable alternative to traditional bituminous materials depending on traffic loadings and availability of recycled aggregates.

Dealing with hazardous waste

Removing hazardous material such as tar from roads carries significant disposal costs. However, Tarmac's road recycling technology offers a safe and cost effective sustainable solution which helps to save natural resources and reduce environmental impact. Our solution is approved by the Environment Agency for recycling tar contaminated planings and has proven successful with a number of local authorities.

Foamed bitumen process

Tarmac has extensive experience of the foamed bitumen process, which uses fully mobile mixing plants to produce base or binder materials by enhancing recycled aggregates, including road planings. We have experience of producing this material within our recycling centres for sale into the local construction markets, or as part of an ex-situ recycling solution for pavement reconstruction schemes.

The systems primary advantages over conventional surfacing techniques are that it is an energy-efficient manufacturing process, reduces site transport movements, conserves local aggregate resources, produces a stockpileable material with an extended life and produces a re-workable material in its early life. Foamix products provide a real, cost effective, value for money option to traditional bituminous products.

National Road Planing Ltd (NRP) and road recycling

Since our purchase of two fully mobile mixing plants and the acquisition of National Road Planing Ltd (NRP), the UKs largest planing company, we now have the capability to provide a complete ex-situ recycling service from the provision of design and technical advice, to planing, production and laying of Foamix base material and the production and laying of binder and surface course materials.
