Fully designed

TarmacDry porous asphalt system is a fully designed service. The system is designed and installed by Tarmac to give engineers and architects confidence when specifying permable asphalt as a performance-based sustainable urban drainage system.

Who installs the system?

TarmacDry is supplied and installed throughout the country by Tarmac's National Contracting teams. We offer an integrated package for TarmacDry, depending on your requirements, which include:

  • Design
  • Service
  • Hydraulic design
  • Value engineering
  • Early contract involvement
  • Build
  • Cleaning and maintenance
  • Warranty and after care service

The system comes with the full backing of the British Board of Agrement (BBA). See more in TarmacDry benefits.

Long term maintenance

Through the use of hydro-cleaning techniques and an effective maintenance regime, the hydraulic performance of the porous asphalt system can be restored with minimal disruption to the client. See more in Cleaning and maintenance.

When were porous asphalt systems first introduced?

Asphalt based porous pavements have been successfully installed and monitored for more than 40 years in the USA and throughout mainland Europe to demonstrate their performance in terms of effective water management. Here in the UK, Tarmac have been developing porous asphalt pavement technology since 1997. Since then the technology has evolved considerably and has been thoroughly tested by independent bodies such as the UK's Transport Research Laboratory (new window) and Coventry University and used in a number of commercial schemes. Tarmac’s first porous asphalt system was installed at a B&Q car park in 1999.
