How long does the colour last?
The colour comes from the type of stone used and for some blends, pigments are added. The colour is therefore permanent. The material will weather but this is not due to the stone changing colour, the stone has been that colour for millions of years.
The initial binder film will weather off to reveal the true colour of the stone. This typically takes 6 to 12 months. The same process happens with black tarmac which looks shiny black on day one, then as the binder film weathers off, it goes to a dark grey.
Therefore, from 0 to 12 months (depending upon sun, rain, wear etc) there will be weathering. After this, the natural stone colour takes over and this will then last the design life of the surface.

Nigel Goshawk. Leicester City Council, design engineer, says:
"Mastertint is the ideal choice for sensitive schemes. It provides the right colour that is durable and maintains itself over time. The colour is a highly visible surface wearing course, therefore a coloured dressing on top isn’t required.”
