Coloured tarmac: Mastertint benefits

Back

Mastertint at London ZooMastertint benefits

The great attraction of Mastertint coloured tarmac, other than its aesthetic appearance, is its fast installation. Unlike concrete modular systems or block paving, Mastertint can be installed in just a few hours. It is laid in exactly the same way as conventional tarmac and requires no additional methods or training. Like conventional tarmac, it can also be laid straight over the top of an existing surface.  Coloured tarmac is a particularly good alternative to resin bound surfaces as Mastertint is a more durable, flexible and cost effective solution.  Mastertint offers all the functional qualities of conventional tarmac in a range of attractive colours and surface textures.  Mastertint is also economical when compared to other building materials.  See more in the life time costing below.

What are the benefits of Tarmac Mastertint?

  • Colour doesn't fade

Mastertint uses a complementary aggregate and pigment which means that the colour is retained through the product and will never be lost. Colour does not fade with wear and tear.

  • Wide range of colours

Mastertint coloured tarmac is available in  a range of colours. See more in our Mastertint image gallery.

  • Long lasting

Structurally designed for a long life, Mastertint is both durable and hardwearing.  Mastertint gets its colour out of the ground, not out of a paint pot.
  • Coloured tarmac, an alternative to resin bound surfaces

Coloured tarmac is a particularly good alternative to resin bound surfaces as Mastertint is a more durable, flexible and cost effective solution. Mastertint requires little maintenance and provides a smooth, safe surface for pedestrians.
  • Smooth surface

Mastertint, as well as being used on trafficked areas, is perfect for pedestrian areas and those using pushchairs, wheelchairs and bicycles. It is weed feed. A great alternative to painted asphalt, block paving and resin bonded gravel.

  • Skid resistant

The polished stone value (PSV) of aggregates are determined by the inherent qualities of the aggregate.  To combat skidding Mastertint is available in PSV values from 50 to 68.

  • Enhances road safety

Mastertint coloured tarmac is a product that is excellent for demarcation areas. Its light reflective qualities make it ideal for enhancing safety. See more in the Coloured tarmac for tunnels page.

  • Available as a porous coloured tarmac

Mastertint can be combined with TarmacDry sustainable urban drainage system (SUDS), a coloured tarmac designed to soak away water. See more on Mastertint with TarmacDry.

  • Quick and easy installation

Mastertint coloured tarmac can be laid over an existing surface, offering all the functional qualities of conventional asphalt.  Installation is fast. It is laid just like conventional asphalt surfaces. It is mixed on our quality approved plant and delivered to site, to be laid by our accredited contractors.

Costing compare Mastertint coloured tarmac to other alternativesLifetime cost

Economically, as well as practically, Mastertint makes total sense. With a lifespan greater than any competitive process and with much greater durability like resin bonded gravel, it is a product that looks as good years later as it did on day one.

  • Mastertint coloured tarmac as a cycle path lasts at least 20 years, this is longer than the alternative methods.
  • Mastertint coloured tarmac is also the only recommended building material for lightly trafficked areas like bus lanes.  It is the only recommended material for trunk roads.
  • Mastertint coloured tarmac has a high durability score for non-trafficked areas and carriageways when compared to other building materials.

Mike Kozden, Wharmby Kozdon Architects, says:

“Mastertint was the only product that fulfilled all the functions we were looking for – strong colour, potential durability and flexibility to go around different shapes. We were very happy with the service from Tarmac and the finished results.”
