Global warming is one of the most serious issues facing the world today and the environmental impact is becoming increasingly apparent. The construction industry is being encouraged to design and build with energy efficiency in mind both in terms of running costs over the building's lifetime but also in terms of embodied energy in the materials used.
The Code for Sustainable Homes, published in December 2006 by the Department for Communities and Local Government has reinforced the need to utilise environmentally friendly materials. What’s more, similar legislation will apply to commercial developments in the near future.
Positive impact of Tarmac's low carbon concrete (LCC)
By reducing CO2 emissions in production, Tarmac’s range of Low Carbon Concretes aim to be just 50%* of the carbon footprint of the same material manufactured using ordinary Portland cement. It can also include recycled aggregate. And when you consider that over 35m3 of concrete is used to build an average size house, it’s clear to see just how much of a positive impact you could make simply by using Tarmac LCC.
