Cost-saving fibre reinforced concrete
What is fibre reinforced concrete? How can it help me build faster and with reduced costs and carbon?
Macro Fibre Reinforcement is a unique form of high strength, high modulus synthetic structural reinforcement that is distributed throughout the concrete matrix. Macro fibres give toughness, impact and fatigue resistance to concrete. It consists of synthetic fibres that have specifically been designed to replace welded wire fabric, light reinforcing bars and steel fibres in flooring.
Topforce is a range of macro-synthetic fibre reinforced, ready-mixed concretes, aimed at replacing the need for crack-control steel wire fabric mesh, and steel fibres in internal concrete applications. It quite simply sets concrete free, liberating the contractor from the constraints and logistical problems associated with steel fabric.
With no need to fix steel fabric, Topforce enables a faster build technique, meaning contractors are able to hand over sites quicker, saving on time and labour charges. Site safety is also improved: there are no heavy steel deliveries to site, no crane or manual handling is required and the trip hazards associated with steel fabric are eliminated.
This powerful blend delivers crack resistance, a faster build, improved site safety and the lowest embodied CO2 on any job compared to mesh.
Health and Safety benefits
Of equal importance to reductions in financial and environmental impact is the health and safety of those working with and around our product. Its relatively smooth surface means the risk of laceration or puncture to workers on site is greatly reduced. In addition, the removal of the need for steel fabric means there are no stock piles on site as a potential trip hazard. With a reduced number of steel deliveries site traffic hazards are also reduced. Similarly, the risk posed by cranes will also be reduced as they will not be required to move the steel.
The Benefits
- Faster
Quicker from install to finish than traditional steel mesh methods. Less people needed on site to install. - Flexible
Can be used for rounded buildings and curved walls - Reduced cost AND carbon footprint
Removes the need for expensive steel fabric saving on costs. Additionally it has 70% lower carbon content than that of steel fabric ‘mesh’ reinforcement, per unit area of concrete.

High steel costs
The costs of steel mesh have risen by 80% in the last few months. The price of steel mesh rose by £80 in both May and June and is set to continue to rise. Using Topforce means you don’t need steel mesh.
