Durnford quarry

Future

At its peak, Durnford Quarry has produced one million tonnes of limestone per annum.

There is less than three million tonnes of limestone reserves remaining but due to the current economic downturn the quarry has been temporarily mothballed, though the production of recycled aggregates continues at the site.

A planning application is being prepared to extend the time available for working the remaining reserves and to revise the restoration scheme using inert infill material to create a restored landform which maximises the potential for beneficial afteruse to the local community and visitors.
