Community
We recognise that our activities can have an impact on the local area and its residents and in this respect we are keen to establish and maintain good relations with our neighbours and the local community as a whole.
Tarmac and the community
Tarmac has established a local liaison group at the quarry which comprises both Local and District Councillors, as well as planning and environmental health officers. Issues associated with the operations at the quarry are discussed and we endeavour to address concerns with a view to limiting the effects of our operations. We regularly host school and college visits at the quarry and this is supplemented by the recently improved visitor facilities which include new viewing platforms.
We also support the Forest of Avon by supplying stone which is used to create access to the local woodlands specifically for disabled and disadvantaged members of the community as well as helping create the Avon Timberland Mountain Bike Trail which is a world-class mountain biking route close to Durnford quarry and is very popular with local cyclists.
Tarmac is a member of the Avon Wildlife Trust and is pleased to have been able to help on numerous occasions with the supply of materials for a wide variety of uses including disabled access tracks, Folly Farm, car parks, gateways and even a cattle pen!
Churngold and the community
Churngold Recycling Limited supports a wide range of community projects in the local area through their Quartet Environmental Fund. This fund can support projects which aim to protect the environment by providing, maintaining or improving public spaces or buildings for the general public's benefit for leisure or recreation. More information on this scheme and how to apply for a grant can be found at www.quartetcf.org.uk.
Churngold has been responsible for developing several community based projects across Bristol and surrounding areas. These have included the recent redevelopment of Manor Farm and Imperial Grounds Playing Fields in South Bristol.
These photographs show the Manor Farm site before and after redevelopment.
They have also helped to develop several other sports facilities across Bristol including:
- Gordano Rugby Club
- St Mary's Rugby Club
- Avonmouth Rugby Club
- Clifton College
- Shaw Farm Community Forest Project
- Filwood Community Church
Churngold works hard to ensure that their works do not impact on the local environment and community through regular liaison with both local residents and the relevant regulatory authorities.
Both Tarmac and Churngold enjoy being part of the local community and will endeavour to continue to support local projects and initiatives and encourage people to approach us with their ideas.
