Coloured tarmac for bus lanes
What Tarmac products can be used for bus lanes?
Due to its' high level of resistance to rutting caused by channelised trafficking, Mastertint coloured tarmac has been identified by many local authorities as an alternative to conventional asphalt when looking for clear demarcation of bus routes in urban situations. The image shows a section of the Birmingham project and a short clip of this being laid can be seen here.
Mastertint coloured tarmac is also often used to alert drivers to potentially hazardous areas, such as sharp bends or hidden junctions. The use of differential surfacings are also used to indicate a change of classification. For example, from a main road to a local road speed restrictions may vary.
Where skid-resistance is a key issue, there is almost certainly a Mastertint solution.
