Water resistant concrete at sewage station
Work at the pumping station included casting a base, 1400mm deep, underwater at the bottom of a 10m deep tank with a diameter of 7.5m approx. The concrete needed to resist washout during underwater placement as the water from tank was to be discharged, through a filtration system, into a watercourse.
Why was Toproc Underwater applications proposed?
Toproc UW is a proprietary microsilica concrete a thixotropic, very cohesive concrete, that is resistant to washout and has low permeability. Typical 24-hour strength is 20-30N/mm2 with a target workability 180mm slump. The water level within the chamber was stabilised to prevent incoming water disrupting the newly placed concrete and placement of Toproc UW via tremie/pump to ensure that the concrete is continually placed within the mass of concrete already discharged.
