The community centre in inner city Wolverhampton, has been designed to the highest specification with regard to energy conservation and sustainable building materials, with an overall BREEAM target of Excellent.

What was needed?

As the overall project needed to use the best sustainable products available, the architects chose to use the TarmacDry porous asphalt system  for their car park, plus incorporate colour. The use of the TarmacDry porous asphalt system  is recognised by BREEAM as a sustainable drainage system (SuDs) worth one credit in a schemes assessment. Almost 99% of the materials used in TarmacDry can also be fully recycled at the end of the systems lifecycle, therefore adding to the schemes sustainability targets. The planners were keen to add colour to their scheme and chose a mid grey Mastertint coloured asphalt rather than an all black car park.

Tarmac’s solution

Architects and specifiers looking to add colour to their projects while also providing effective water management, can now draw upon a porous asphalt SuDS system, which is available in a range of colours.

TarmacDry, a proven SuDS porous asphalt system, has been successfully combined with Mastertint coloured asphalt, which includes specialist, durable pigments to ensure that the colour is retained throughout the product.

The combined TarmacDry porous asphalt system with Mastertint coloured asphalt is available in a range of bespoke colours. It offers long-term durability by combining quartzite aggregate, durable, light reflecting pigments and high-quality polymers with colourless binders to enhance the mechanical stability of the asphalt mix.
