Limebond (featured on our sister company's website: Buxton Cement)

Lime was used extensively in building for centuries. It has stood the test of time and has only recently been superseded by the use of Portland cement in modern masonary construction. Cement is a very hard and fast setting material and this can be detrimental to the durability of masonry construction.

Now, more than ever, traditional materials are seen as the natural choice for the renovation and maintenance of our rich legacy of older buildings.  Lime has continued to play a role in the restoration of many period and historic buildings in the UK and is making a comeback in modern masonry construction, as the drawback of cement mortars have become widely recognised.

Lime mortars are breathable, allowing the passage of air and moisture. They set by absorbing Carbon Dioxide from the atmosphere and are less brittle and rigid than cement mortars allowing slight movements.
