What is Tarmac Mastertint?
Mastertint is a coloured tarmac range that's both aesthetically pleasing and can practically mark out important boundaries such as bus and cycle lanes and pedestrian areas. It is an excellent solution for both commercial and residential environment. For any questions please email us at: mastertint@tarmac.co.uk outlining your project requirements.
Clear synthetic binder
As Mastertint uses an innovative clear synthetic binder, it offers the functional qualities of conventional asphalt in a range of attractive colours and surface textures. The innovative clear binder is also know as Mexphalte C.
See more information on Mexphalte on the Shell website (opens in new window) .

What sets Mastertint aside is that we use a complementary aggregate and pigment which means that the colour is retained through the product and will never be lost. Colour does not fade with wear and tear.

Where can I use Mastertint Coloured Asphalt?

Highways and Local Authorities
With its combination of colours and surface textures, Mastertint can also be used to effectively delineate high profile locations such as bus lanes, cycle lanes and traffic calming areas. See Birmingham Bus Lanes case study below.
Public parks and gardens
For rural or environmentally sensitive off-highway schemes, Mastertint's clear-bound aggregate range is the natural choice for architects and planners alike.
Sports and Leisure
For sports stadiums, football pitches, golf courses, leisure centres, playgrounds and other sports surfaces.
Residential / lightly trafficked areas
Suitable for coloured driveways, coloured roads, coloured footpaths and coloured car parking areas. Mastertint is a durable coloured alternative to traditional asphalt. It is a direct alternative for block paving systems.
Pedestrian areas
Mastertint's smooth and even texture provides a safe pedestrian surface, minimising the risk of slips, trips and falls.

Mastertint for use in road tunnels
Across Europe, the use of coloured asphalt in road tunnels has helped to cut lighting costs without compromising driver safety. Reflective road surfacing technology has the potential to combine with lighting technologies to deliver better driver visibility as well as offering the potential to reduce lighting costs.
The light reflectivity and durability of Mastertint is achieved by incorporating special aggregates, light coloured pigments and high-quality polymers and binders to enhance the mechanical stability of the asphalt mix. This light reflecting asphalt ensures it is suitable for all heavy trafficked areas.
Mastertint Coloured Chippings
Tarmac Mastertint is also available in chippings. These can be rolled into asphalt of any colour during laying to achieve an aesthetic result. These chippings are available in bulk loads for delivery to any UK location, additionally we can offer a bagging service, and a recent project that was supplied was Horseguards Parade Road for The Royal Parks.
