Uniquely coloured pedestrian & cycle paths at Westbourne Grove
City of Westminster is transforming its cycle paths to encourage residents and visitors to walk or cycle around Westminster. Funded through TfL to develop London’s Cycle Network, the refurbishment of the Westbourne Grove cycle path serves to further complement the leafy and tranquil environment of the area with a community and education focus.
Tarmac's Solution
In response to the brief set down by City of Westminster, Tarmac
developed a flat, direct and accessible 340 metre pathway that
linked cyclists and pedestrians to a number of surrounding
schools and youth facilities.
Mastertint was specified to develop and mark out a distinctive
pathway. The contrast between the coloured asphalt provided a
clear direction and divide for pedestrians and cyclists.
Tarmac supplied 50 tonnes of Mastertint Classic Buff and 30 tonnes of Mastertint Classic Green to provide the effective demarcation of the pedestrian and cycle pathway, which measured no more than 1.5 metres in width.
With the project taking place inside one of the area’s busiest
residential parks selecting an easy to lay, hard wearing yet low
maintenance surface was of prime importance. Laid on the
existing pathway, the full depth coloured asphalt created a safe
and attractive path that will serve the local community for many
years to come.
