Red Mastertint chippings at the Horse Guards Parade, London
The Horse Guards Parade is a large parade ground in central London which has been used for a variety of ceremonies and parades since the 17th century. A road leading up to the parade needed to be surfaced to accommodate the large amount of traffic that passes over it.
The Parade is situated in front of the Grade II listed Horse Guards
building, and the surrounding area includes St James's Palace.
It was therefore a requirement that any new surface must be
sympathetic to the Palladian style architecture and the client
specified the new surface must be red in colour.
Tarmac's Solution
The aesthetics of the new surface were of utmost importance as
the road is in a prestigious area. As Tarmac's Mastertint chippings
are made from red rock, clear binder and also use a red pigment
to ensure the colour is as deep as possible, it provided the ideal
surface for recovering the required section of road.
The contractor for the project, Ringway, needed the product
delivered within a matter of days of contacting Tarmac in order
for the Parade to be ready for upcoming ceremonies.
Tarmac delivered 60 tonnes of Mastertint 14mm pre-coated
chippings, in red, within four days and the contractors were
extremely impressed with Tarmac's efficiency at being able to
deliver an order so quickly.
