Carbon Footprint Calculator

Tarmac launches industry's first comprehensive Carbon Footprint Calculator

Carbon Footprint CalculatorTarmac is set to help customers measure and reduce carbon with the launch of its new Carbon Footprint Calculator. The comprehensive service covers any Tarmac product from any of its UK sites and uses a robust methodology based on industry-recognised standards.

Tarmac’s Carbon Footprint Calculator provides customers with a complete ‘cradle-to-gate’ carbon quotation – this means the footprint includes CO2 emitted from extracting, processing, manufacturing and transporting the product and the materials used to make it. The service covers Tarmac’s complete product portfolio, including aggregates, asphalt and ready-mixed concrete. It will help customers to manage the carbon footprints of their projects and provide supply chain partners with complete transparency about the embodied carbon of the products they use.

Dr Martyn Kenny, Director of Sustainability at Tarmac said: “Reducing and managing the carbon footprint of our products and our operations is a key focus for Tarmac, and we’re committed to supporting our customers in doing the same. Providing a transparent and comprehensive carbon calculation helps our clients to cut carbon and deliver more sustainable projects.”

Tarmac customers can request a carbon footprint ‘quote’ through their account manager, through the company’s website - www.tarmac.co.uk - or directly from the sustainability team by emailing sustainability@tarmac.co.uk , and supplying a quotation or order number.

Dr Kenny added: “In the industry, there is relatively limited carbon information available to customers, which makes it difficult for them to measure and manage the footprint of their projects. It is important to consider the carbon footprint across the whole life of a project and the construction materials used obviously make up a part of this. Our new calculator is the first to provide comprehensive carbon data across a complete product range and a nationwide network of sites.”

“There is a rapidly increasing demand for more information on carbon and increased levels of environmental reporting, so it is vital that we can provide accurate information on the carbon footprint of materials in the supply chain. Our Carbon Footprint Calculator provides this level of transparency, so customers can deliver on their goals and gain a competitive advantage.”

The Carbon Footprint Calculator is the latest phase in Tarmac’s long term sustainability programme. Recent work has included the roll-out of energy and carbon roadmaps and energy-saving assessment tools at all sites, a major waste-derived fuels programme and the introduction of SMART metering technology at each site.
