Why Tarmac?

It was a mixture of good luck and coincidence. I am from Colombia and my family have been involved in the construction industry and I have a background in procurement. My passion for procurement led me to Tarmac.
The construction industry is dynamic and challenging. You need to be ambitious and develop your skills in order to have a pro-active and successful role in the sector.
For me the best thing about Tarmac is a combination of interacting with internal people in the company and contact with suppliers on the outside. Every day is different and that is what makes the job exciting.

A bit about your role

I am responsible for a team of 4 people, together we are in charge of the entire company’s master data. Master Data involves two main areas, firstly managing the catalogue of materials and services that Tarmac procures through our management system and secondly, managing and controlling all the background information related to suppliers.

The focus is always to spend time on activities that deliver the maximum value for the company. Overall I get involve in projects that aim to deliver savings and value linked with procurement and master data.

Qualifications/Experience that has helped you

I have an MBA from Sheffield University, a manufacturing and operations management post-graduate degree, and a bachelor degree in Business management. Since joining I have also completed the Tarmac managers foundation development programme.

In terms of my job I would say that I have helped to develop a robust performance management structure in Procurement. In challenging times it becomes crucial to monitor where you are in terms of your targets and objectives. We always work very hard in order to deliver our commitments to the business and to achieve the exceptional.
