Tarmac is one of the leading suppliers of concrete in the UK with a national network of over 150 certified BSI accredited plants and a portfolio of quality assured products designed for all applications – from basic foundations to the harshest nuclear environments.

Tarmac has a clear focus on providing concrete solutions to specific sectors and is consistently seeking new product innovations with a team of experts dedicated to address challenges such as off-site manufacture, Modern Methods of Construction, Part L building regulations and the Code for Sustainable Homes.

Tarmac has established a strong reputation throughout the UK not only for the delivery of high quality ready-mixed concrete products (conforming to BS EN 206) but also for the reliability and environmental performance of its static batching plants. Fully certified ISO 14001 accredited, each plant is quality controlled using computerised batching to ensure the production of consistent concrete mixes to the highest specifications. Tarmac is also able to provide highly detailed production data and load tracability with each concrete plant linked directly to the company’s ‘Nimrod’ ordering and shipping system.

All of Tarmac’s concrete production is monitored and quality controlled by the company’s own NAMAS approved testing facilities.

Delivery of concrete materials is via a national contracted haulier fleet of Tarmac liveried mixer trucks. In addition Tarmac has several regionally based minimix operations for small load deliveries from 0.5m³.

Site based production capability

As one of the leading operators of mobile concrete batching plants in the UK Tarmac has extensive experience and a proven track record in the erection, commissioning and operation of site based plants.

Tarmac currently owns and operates 14 mobile batching plants in the UK. In the last two years eight mobile plants have been installed on sites across the country with a further two confirmed to be erected by summer 2010.

This approach delivers major efficiencies in the operation of the plants through consistency of parts, engineering and maintenance procedures combined with the benefits of transferable operator skills.

Tarmac manages the operation of mobile plants on customer sites as an extension of our concrete business. As such, in commissioning a mobile plant Tarmac’s quality, engineering and maintenance teams follow the same set of procedures to the same exacting standards as employed for the installation of a static plant.

Tarmac’s approach to quality control and maintenance fully extends to its mobile plants which are fully integrated into the established monitoring and review processes undertaken by Tarmac’s national quality team as well as into the routine schedule of the local maintenance teams.
