How do you get involved

How do you get involved and what are the steps?

The scheme will be open initially to orders over 2,000m² or 10-15 houses, generally builders allow 5% wastage, this would give approx 20 bags. You will need to have or set up a current direct account with Tarmac Group. We will need any site safety rules, access restrictions and operating times.

The steps are outlined below:

STEP 1: Order your HIPPOBAG™ from our National Sales Helpline and fill it with broken and unwanted aircrete and / or aggregate blocks.

Tarmac Topblock will supply 1m³ bags (in packs of 20) to site with the first delivery of blocks via a courier. This can be purchased by faxing the order to 01902 384542 or emailing it to takebackscheme@tarmac.co.uk. The builder MUST have a direct account with Tarmac group, or request an application form.

STEP 2: When you have filled your bags and an up-lift is required, simply contact HIPPOWASTE™.

Bags must be filled with Tarmac Topblock aggregate and aircrete block material only.
Please note:
  - Bags contaminated with other types of waste will be subject to charges.
  - Only Tarmac Topblock material.
  - Bags must not be overloaded (above the top of the bag or exceed 1 tonne).

STEP 3: Filled bags are then up-lifted and transported back to the nearest Tarmac Recycling site.

When 10 or more bags are full, your site should call HIPPOWASTE™ who will uplift within 5 working days. You can contact them by telephone 0845 850 0850 between 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday. Alternatively, visit www.hippobag.co.uk or email bookings@hippowaste.co.uk.
Please note:
  - Bags ready for collection must be clear of any overhead restrictions and within 4 metres of hard standing.
  - Bags will be uplifted within 5 working days, 3-9 bags 10 working days.
  - Ensure adequate and safe access for HIPPOWASTE™'s vehicles and operators to collect the bags.
  - Damaged bags will not be uplifted.

STEP 4: Bags are emptied; waste blocks are crushed and returned to the manufacturing process.

The bags uplifted from site will be taken to a local Tarmac Recycling plant. The material will then be processed and taken back to the neighbouring block manufacturing facilities.
