Walls below DPC
Durox products can be used to construct walls below ground and can be used in sulfate soil conditions. In addition they are resistant to the freeze / thaw conditions likely to occur below the DPC. Durox Foundation blocks should be specified to construct 260-300mm solid walls below ground.
Beam and block floors
Durox Floor blocks are suitable for use in beam and block ground floors. They are light and quick to install and form an imediate working platform which will also provide effective sound and thermal insulation. Coursing bricks or slips are available for use with this product.
External walls
Durox blocks may be used to construct cavity and solid external walls .Durox blocks are suitable for a range of external finishes. In a single leaf wall the minimum width of Durox, with or without rendering, may be selected from BS 5628-3. Durox blocks may be used to construct cavity and solid external walls.
Separating walls
The Building Regulations require separating walls to provide reasonable resistance to sound transmission.
Guidance on suitable Durox constructions capable of meeting the specified performance is shown. This includes constructions that can be built to satisfy Robust Details E-WM-6 and E-WM-7.
Internal walls
Any grade of Durox can be used for the construction of internal walls. For partitions in dwellings these products can be used to provide good levels of airborne sound insulation as well as a suitable background for finishes and for fixings. For commercial and industrial applications Durox may be used to provide sound insulation, fire resistance and structural strength.
Thermal insulation and U-values
Some typical construction
solutions to comply with Building
Regulation Part L, Conservation
of Heat and Power, are shown on
the attached pages. As
insulation material sizes and
their thermal conductivity are
subject to change, it is
recommended that the U-value
of constructions be periodically
confirmed by reference to
Technical Services.
