Commitment to employees
Our first and foremost priority is the health and safety of our employees. In 2000, a comprehensive strategy was developed to radically transform the safety culture across Tarmac with the aim of eradicating all lost-time injuries and unsafe behaviour. Since its implementation we have improved our performance by 83% and, just as importantly, we have created a 'safety first' culture throughout the business in which incidents and injuries are avoided through good training and adherence to safe working practices.
Health matters
Following its launch in 2004, we have
continued to implement our Occupational
Health Strategy throughout Tarmac
Topblock. The strategy sets out a rigorous
and comprehensive approach to eliminate
the conditions and behaviours that cause
health and safety risks across the
workforce.
Employee Assistance
Programme
The EAP was formally established in 2005
and is open to all employees and
immediate family across the business. It
provides advice on a whole range of
personal issues.
'Speak Up' programme
In 2005, we introduced a free and
confidential 'Speak Up' phone service for
all employees to report any issues that may
concern them.
Staff suggestion schemes
and awards
We have introduced a staff suggestion
scheme and annual awards ceremony for
all employees, to encourage feedback,
innovation and increased customer service.
