Project value: -
Completed: 2005

The EPIC building has been designed to accommodate technology based business start-ups. It is claimed to be the best specified and finished building of its type in the Midlands.

It will also be one of the most energy efficient building in the Midlands thanks to three large photovoltaic arrays, superior fabric air tightness, high quality double glazing with mid pane blinds and of course the TermoDeck system.

The floors are either open plan or fully cellularised and all feature displacement ventilation. There is a shared core area with informal spaces and meeting rooms. An air handling unit working in permanent full fresh air mode during the day serves each wing. Heat recovery is by way of thermal-wheels and domestic sized, gas-fired boilers supply additional heating via the AHU. Unwanted heat is purged from the TermoDeck units using low overnight ambient air temperatures. Each floor can be isolated for night heating or cooling.
