Our employees
Developing our people in a fair, safe and supportive environment is fundamental to the long-term success of our business. We know that investing in our employees leads to a more productive workforce, retains outstanding people and creates competitive advantage.
The principles that guide the way we treat our employees are set out in the Anglo American Good Citizenship business principles. We also support the values set out in the UN’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights and recognise the right of our employees to freedom of association. We believe in fair labour practices and seek to comply with all applicable employment laws and industry standards.
Our main areas of focus are:
- diversity and inclusion
- training and development
- dialogue and support.

In addition, 84% of our employees surveyed strongly believed that Tarmac is committed to achieving a sustainable future for the environment, communities and our business. This demonstrates our progress in embedding sustainability into our operations and culture.

Rewarding employees – Tarmac’s Achieve the Exceptional and Tarmac Building Products ‘Our Stars’ awards recognised more outstanding employee contributions this year.
Our new careers website continued to attract and motivate the best people to join our business.
The Diversity and Inclusion Framework Policy was updated in 2011 and will be rolled out in 2012 by an internal working group.
Our targets
