Restoration Partnerships
Every Tarmac quarry in the UK has a restoration plan. We work hard to ensure that sites leave a positive long-term legacy; restoration helps us to achieve this aim by considering ecological objectives and the needs of the local community in the quarry's end use.
Engaging with relevant non-governmental organisations is integral to our work to restore and enhance biodiversity.
We recognise that quarrying has a significant impact on the local environment, and that we have a responsibility to plan carefully for each of our sites as operations come to an end. This includes engaging with key organisations that are committed to preserving our landscape and traditionally opposed to quarrying activity, such as the Campaign for the Protection of Rural England (CPRE).
In 2011, we organised a visit to our Blashford site for the 15 members of the Hampshire Branch of CPRE, and introduced them to the detailed planning and specific actions involved in our ‘whole-life’ approach to quarry development, operation and restoration. We aimed to demonstrate how sustainability is integrated into all our quarrying operations, and that we actively enhance biodiversity through our restoration schemes. This was an ideal opportunity to show our visitors that we share their dedication to maintaining a thriving countryside that is accessible to all. We welcome their expertise in providing input into our restoration plans and helping to monitor their effectiveness.
