19th December 2006 - SLAM DUNK! DERBY BASKETBALL TEAM SCORES TARMAC FUNDING

Local basketball team, the Derby Trailblazers, is celebrating a win of a different kind - £250 worth of funding from Derbyshire-based Tarmac Topfloor.

The Trailblazers - who play at Moorways Leisure Centre - were set up in 2000, and have 'blazed' a path through the English Basketball League (EBL). In 2004/2005, the senior men's team won the EBL Division 3 North and gained promotion to EBL Division 2. This season they've so far achieved an impressive 100% winning record!

In addition to the senior team, the Trailblazers have a strong development programme for youngsters of all ages. Charlie Wright, Chairman of the Derby Trailblazers said, "The Trailblazers offer training, support, encouragement for local children and have competitive teams for under 12's, right up to under 18's and seniors. We rely on donations and sponsorship from local businesses to survive, so this money from Tarmac will help us to continue to work within the community and provide much needed sporting activities."

"We're pleased to be able to make this small contribution towards the great work that Charlie and the Trailblazers team do within Derby," commented Will Spurr, Managing Director of Tarmac Topfloor.
