Nottingham's allotment holders help keep contractors healthy

Generous allotment holders at the St Ann's allotments in Nottingham have dug deep to donate fresh fruit and vegetables to a team of contractors from Tarmac's National Contracting Maltby depot during their work on a £700,000 contract to restore the site.

Happy to see their site restored, the local allotment holders have regularly donated fresh fruit and veg to the team.

"They've given us potatoes, runner beans, sweetcorn and apples," said Mick Myers, National Contracting foreman, "The people here are all very friendly."

St Ann's allotments are the largest in Europe, dating back to the 19th century and Tarmac's role is to lay 2.5km of new roads and pathways and 2.5km of irrigation piping. The team's work involves improving drainage by installing a number of soakaway units, gullies and manhole chambers.

The work, which commenced in July, is due to be completed by Christmas.
