Tarmac employees' car boots give a boost to local children's hospice

Employees at a local Tarmac office recently blitzed their possessions to provide Children's Hospice South West with a booty of cash when they made use of the site for a fundraising staff car boot sale, raising £534.38.

Employees from the South West regional office at Stancombe asked friends, family and other Tarmac employees to raid cupboards, lofts, garages, cellars, basements, sheds and out-houses and bring along anything not nailed-down or emotionally attached.

Karen Willis, Head of Major Donor, Corporate & Trust Fundraising, said: "Children's Hospice South West is delighted that Tarmac Stancombe has supported us so generously again and the donation could cover the cost of a nurse for a week at Children’s Hospice South West's Charlton Farm.

"Corporate Partnerships like this are vital for ensuring the long term future of our charity. Thank you to all the staff at Tarmac Stancombe for their support in 2008."

As well as the boot sale, there was a display of quarry vehicles, Nailsea Fire Station's fire engine, Giant Floor Games, hot and cold refreshments, a raffle and lucky dip.

Although rain throughout the day tried to dampen the spirits of all involved, the sale was moved into one of the buildings and after sellers had paid their £5 entry fee, a very respectable amount of £534.38 was raised for Children's Hospice South West. Already the Tarmac Stancombe employees are formulating ideas for fundraising in 2009 much to the delight of their beneficiaries.
