Tarmac saves resources by recycling road surfaces
Tarmac's Recycling division is helping to make road construction more sustainable with an innovative system that reuses the existing asphalt surface to create new roads.
Normally, the material produced when a road surface is removed is disposed of - often to landfill - and a new surface is laid. Now, by using FoamMaster, Tarmac is helping to ensure that the old surface is saved and mixed with other aggregates to form part of the new road. As well as conserving resources, by reusing materials that are already on-site, FoamMaster reduces the number of vehicle journeys needed to deliver aggregates, further reducing the carbon footprint of road-laying projects. FoamMaster was used on the A38 in Devon, the UK's largest road recycling scheme to date, as well as on the A52 in Nottinghamshire.
