Tarmac Finepath
Hydraulically bound footpath material
A hydraulically bound material that's both a binder and surface course. Ideal for towpaths and footpaths as an alternative to black ash and other decorative surfaces. Available in a range of colours.
Using surplus quarry fines combined with secondary sourced hydraulic binders to produce a uniform material in a range of natural colours, black, red, green and gold. Another innovation from Tarmac, who worked closely with British Waterways to find an alternative material to 'black ash' surfacing, Finepath can now be seen extensively throughout the West Midlands on their network of footpaths and towpaths. Finepath is both a surface course and binder course combined, suitable for hand lay. It is non frost susceptible and is less prone to segregation compared to unbound materials. Finepath is ideal for a more formal setting.
Finepath Laying Guide
Recommended Sub-base
Finepath should be laid on a well-drained, well compacted and stable sub-base such as Recycled Type 1 Granular sub-base from Tarmac Recycling.
On Site Storage
It is strongly recommended that Finepath is tipped on
a clean, dry and hard standing area, or on sheeting to
prevent contamination
If Finepath is to be stored on site for more than 24
hours, it is recommended that it is covered to prevent
moisture loss.ls.
Laying
Thickness: 50mm of Finepath, after compaction.
When hand laid, Finepath should be hand-raked to
the required profile, allowing 25mm surcharge, with
a supported edge such as tanalised timber. A surface
gradient fall of 25mm per metre (1:40) across the path
width will allow appropriate rainfall drainage.
Compaction
A vibrating steel-wheeled roller, or dead-weight
roller of at least 800kg is recommended to ensure
adequate compaction.
Finepath may be trafficked immediately, however a 24 hour closure period would assist early-life strength development.
