BSI stamp of approval for tarmac recycling sites
Tarmac has been awarded BSI registration at 28 UK recycling units, following a series of assessment visits to individual sites.
Certification provides external verification of the strength of Tarmac's robust quality management systems and the company's environmental commitment in the production of secondary aggregates from recovered materials.
To achieve registration, Tarmac had to demonstrate compliance with the international quality management standard BS EN ISO 9001.
Peter Glindon, senior quality manager at Tarmac, said: "We've always strived to be at the forefront of environmental best practice, but these considerations are now becoming increasingly important to our customers and the wider market. BSI registration for quality management and business performance not only demonstrates our own commitment to sustainability and recycling, it also gives our customers added assurance of the high quality of our product."
John Hele, group product manager at BSI, said: "Tarmac was the first organisation to gain registration to the quality standard back in 1979 and the proud holder of the very first certificate of registration ever issued for a quality system. Since the certificate was introduced, the world of aggregates has been through some big changes and Tarmac has always been at the forefront of adopting increasingly high standards."
