Tarmac Limited acquires 100% of United Marine Holdings Limited

Tarmac Limited has acquired Hanson's 50% shareholding in United Marine Holdings Limited ("UMH") and now has 100% ownership of UMH and its subsidiary companies.

UMH is a marine sand and gravel dredging and processing business with sales of over 4 million tonnes in the UK and North West Europe in 2007. The business employs 200 people with its head office located in Chichester. It operates 4 ships dredging at sea from 20 licences around the coasts of England and Wales, and 13 wharves located in London, along the south coast of England, and in Bristol and South Wales.

UMH's wharf at Greenwich in south east London is currently the largest marine aggregate processing plant in Europe with a capacity of 2 million tonnes per annum.

This is an exciting acquisition for our aggregates business. It significantly enhances long-term sustainability of aggregate supplies and will further consolidate our market position in its areas of operation.

For more information on UMH's products and services please see Tarmac Aggregates.
