Tarmac’s National Contracting laying paths at the School

Nottinghamshire school safer thanks to eco pathways

A Nottinghamshire school has had new footpaths installed to improve safety of access for its pupils. The footpaths were laid at Flintham Primary School by staff from Tarmac's National Contracting Division based in Nottinghamshire.

'Tarmac donated the materials and labour to the school after hearing that the existing access could be made much safer for the children. The company, who are part of the Nottinghamshire Highways Partnership, also used sixty tonnes of recycled based material from the Tarmac ashpalt plant at Colwick in Nottingham, in order to help the school achieve its environmental objectives.

Tarmac Contracting Director Mike Elford said "As a major player in the Nottinghamshire Highways Partnership, we were pleased to help when the headteacher explained that the only entrance to the school was on an awkward bend. We were equally pleased to be able to use recycled materials from a local source as using sustainable materials and minimising environmental impact is a key aim of our business."

Flintham Primary School Headteacher Stuart Edmonds said "We are extremely grateful for the help Tarmac have given us in creating our new entrances. Using an environmentally friendly product has fitted with our aim of using as many recycled materials as possible. It has also reinforced our work in educating children about the importance of making choices that minimise impact upon the environment. With Tarmac's support we have made the children's journey into and out of school safer whilst teaching an important message."
